The Man with One Hand

DD slammed on the breaks with a squeal. He leapt from the driver's seat and yanked the rolling garage door shut. The bang of metal on pavement reverberated against the concrete walls.

He cut the engine and sunk back into the bucket seat, glancing at the bag of money in the passenger seat. There was blood on the edge of the bag. Literal blood money.

Never again. I said that last time I worked for him. I said it the time before. When am I going to learn?

DD rubbed his eyes and locked everything up. The bloody paper bag was dumped into a ratty plastic bag and wrapped up for storage in his leather jacket's inside pocket before exiting the garage space. In an hour the cash would be going straight to the gang controlling the section of sprawl he kept his most treasured possession, his car.

ISO Paying Work
20:30 Local Time

"Come, on, cuz. I just need a stack to make rent." DD sighed as Big Larry gave him the run around from the other end of the payphone line. "For rent and food? What else? Uh, huh, yeah, I know. I know. Who? Naw. No, man! Because he is hot, and I just got out. Look, just hit me up if you hear something."

Darnell hung up the receiver swearing and pulled a pipe-smoke cigar from his jacket pocket, brushing the handle of his piece.

I don't mind risk, but come on L, he thought as he lit the tobacco and puffed some sweet, fragrant smoke. He walked back to the tenement where he was two months behind on his rent, hoping to avoid his landlord. He didn't care so much about the place. The rent he worried about was for his garage space. A small west African crew kept things pretty secure as long as their gang was paid on time. Miss a day, however, and all bets were off.

Opening Up for Business
First Post

"Somehow, somewhere, some day, things will get better. At least that is what we all tell ourselves." Robert B.Lost, Outlaw Rider and Sometimes Doer of Good Deeds.

The Date: some other one than a moment ago

The Place: Middle of No Where, past the last Outlaw, into the deepest forgotten places

The Scene: a lonely gas station, rest stop, diner with several off-road vehicles, multiple rusted out Dodge Tacoma pickup trucks, along with several semis hauling ag products in the parking lot. The sun bakes down, dust devils swirl down the cracking asphalt leading both east and west.

The sign on the highway states last gas for 500 miles.

Welcome to your campaign!
A blog for your campaign

Wondering how to get started? Here are a few tips:

1. Invite your players

Invite them with either their email address or their Obsidian Portal username.

2. Edit your home page

Make a few changes to the home page and give people an idea of what your campaign is about. That will let people know you’re serious and not just playing with the system.

3. Choose a theme

If you want to set a specific mood for your campaign, we have several backgrounds to choose from. Accentuate it by creating a top banner image.

4. Create some NPCs

Characters form the core of every campaign, so take a few minutes to list out the major NPCs in your campaign.

A quick tip: The “+” icon in the top right of every section is how to add a new item, whether it’s a new character or adventure log post, or anything else.

5. Write your first Adventure Log post

The adventure log is where you list the sessions and adventures your party has been on, but for now, we suggest doing a very light “story so far” post. Just give a brief overview of what the party has done up to this point. After each future session, create a new post detailing that night’s adventures.

One final tip: Don’t stress about making your Obsidian Portal campaign look perfect. Instead, just make it work for you and your group. If everyone is having fun, then you’re using Obsidian Portal exactly as it was designed, even if your adventure log isn’t always up to date or your characters don’t all have portrait pictures.

That’s it! The rest is up to your and your players.
